The Release
This EP was born in a single night, in the immediate aftermath of my only suffered breakup. All the lyrics were written while grief was still raw. These songs are meant to be a memento of all the spaces left behind: empty rooms, fading photographs, frozen memories, and my desperate search for warmth, not just in her absence, but in my absence as well.
It was a quiet May, and I found myself at the edge of my own shallow grave, feeling the cold longing of an unsaid goodbye while haunted by nostalgia and flashes of betrayal where erupting in me, while I was looking at our first photograph. This deeply personal EP closely followed me and my heartbreak to its darkest edges. It was arranged and composed with my best friend, recorded, mixed and engineered by who I consider to be my one and only mentor in music and last but not least, put in artwork by another of my dearest friends, who doesn't even do art anymore, if not for very special occasions, like this one.
The album cover idea came from one of my vivid nightmares. Barely conscious, I felt something dragging my dead soul and my beaten body across a grey field. Only to discover, in horror, that the entirety of this field was made of hands, each demanding a piece of me.
There is no distance or resolution here. This is just an unfiltered snapshot of one hell of a night spent confronting my loss, anger, abandonment, pain and the struggle to endure the cold stare of my self reflection, in a broken mirror, barely hanging on the wall, full of my own blood.
This is everything that remains when love is gone, and when the wounds are not.
